Real Sociedad is a Spanish football team, based in San Sebastián / Donostia in Guipúzcoa / Gipuzkoa. Founded on September 17, 1909. In the 2008-2009 season, Real Sociedad to play in the Segunda Division or Second Division.

History
In the Basque language known as 'Erreala' or 'txuri-urdin' (white-blue), which is the pride of their costume colors: blue with white vertical stripes and white trousers. White-blue color is also available on the banner (flag) them. Their main stadium is the Estadio Anoeta, with a capacity of 32 thousand spectators.

Football was introduced in Donostia in the early 1900's, by students and workers returning from England. In 1904, they founded San Sebastian Recreation Club and in 1905 they competed in the Copa del Rey. In May 1905, San Sebastian Football Club was formed as an offshoot of the previous club. New in 1909 they managed to penetrate the Copa del Rey, but because there were irregularities in the registration permit them eventually compete with the name of the Club Ciclista de San Sebastian.

The team managed to bulldoze Club Español de Madrid with the score 3-1 in the final. Finally, on September 7, 1909, the Sociedad de Futbol was founded. In 1910 Spanish clubs played in two cup competitions and Sociedad de Futbol go by the name Vasconia UECF Copa de San Sebastian. In the same year, Alfonso XIII, became patron of the club.

They became known as the Real Sociedad de Futbol. Real Sociedad is a founding member of La Liga in 1928. The team is ranked fourth, with players' Francisco 'Cuqui' Bienzobas as top scorer. This club name changed to Donostia Club de Futbol in 1931, but returned named Real Sociedad after the Spanish Civil War in 1939.

The position of this club 'ups and downs, the Primera Division and Second Division. In one period, in 1940, was promoted to 7 times. They are the best period in the early '80s, when they won the Primera Division for two consecutive seasons.

For several years, Real Sociedad follow the ways in which his rival, Athletic Bilbao, who only recruit players from the Basque. They are 'breaking' the rules in 1989, when they recruit players of Ireland, John Aldridge, from Liverpool.

This surprisingly successful club ranked second in La Liga season 2002/2003.
