In the history of the Thomas Cup is an international badminton tournament for men's team number which is held every two years. The name is derived from the name of the championship Sir George Alan Thomas, former President of the IBF and badminton player from England who donated the cup in 1939.

Thomas Cup is the oldest championship held by the IBF. The first championship was held in the year 1948-1949. In that year, the tournament was participated by 10 countries: Canada, Denmark, Britain, France, Ireland, Wales, United States, India, Malaya, and Sweden. Throughout its history, only three countries that had been a champion: the People's Republic of China, Malaysia (Malaya), and Indonesia.
Each participant Thomas Cup team consists of five people / couples (3 single, 2 doubles).
